William Langhorne, IB Diploma Programme (DP) student at Pensacola High School in Florida, United States, recently competed at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh.
The event attracted thousands of international scientists, and was a great opportunity for Langhorne to be inspired by the work of others.
The Pensacola News Journal quotes William: “The biggest thing about attending this event was the ability to interact with like-minded peers.”
The publication reports that Langhorne was placed fourth in the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category, with his submission The Implementation of the Phototaxis Behavior of Physarum polycephalum in a Decentralized Robotics System. His impressive work caught the attention of the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) in Pensacola. As a result, Langhorne will spend this summer as an intern at their facilities in Pensacola.
“Young students with ideas beyond the boundaries of normal understanding need our help to find networks of people that will help them develop their talents and skills and mature their genius within them,” said Cherie Stephens, Langhorne’s science teacher at Pensacola High School.
